Revelation Song

One of my favorite Christian songs. Most of the song’s lyrics are taken from scripture, with the majority of it coming from the book of Revelation. I think it’s so cool how the apostle John wrote the Revelation while exiled on a secluded island in the Mediterranean some 2000 years ago, and now, in 2011, we sing it as a song. At last year’s HIM conference in the middle of downtown Honolulu – half a world away from the Mediterranean – some 3000 people sang this.

Below are all the verses I could find that were used as direct quotes for the song, or seemed to somehow fit. As you can see, many are from Revelation, but I added verses I could find from other books because I think it’s neat to see how the other books of the Bible relate to each other, and it all climaxes in the final book.

Revelation 5:12

In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

Psalm 33:3

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 96:1

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Psalm 149:1

Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.

Revelation 5:9

And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

Revelation 5:13

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”

Revelation 4:8

Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“Holy, holy, holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was, and is, and is to come.”

Revelation 4:3

And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.

Revelation 11:19

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.

Revelation 14:14

I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand.

Revelation 7:12

“Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!”

Revelation 4:11

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

Revelation 15:4

Who will not fear you, Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Zechariah 14:8

On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter.

John 7:38

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

Revelation 7:17

For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

1 Corinthians 2:7

No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

Colossians 1:26-27

the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Revelation 19:16

On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
